Tablet market: Android tablets will overtake the iPad in 2013

The tablet market is booming, and the outlook remains very well. However, Apple's iPad is not expected to have by the end of the year to be more industry leader.

The market research firm IDC, takes a look into the future and the development of writing in the tablet(FreeLander Tablet PC) market. The results published on Tuesday: For the current year it is expected that nearly 191 million computers are sold flat. Thus corrected, the analysts their forecast from December 2012 significantly upwards. At that time, IDC had forecast for 2013, 172 million devices sold well. The rapid growth is expected to continue until further notice, until 2017, an annual increase of 11 percent to 350 million then stepped tablet computer expected.
According to IDC, because the small tablet with a screen size under eight inches of their essential contribution. In the current quarter already delivered every other tablet fit into that category, and this process will continue.
Later this year, could replace Android as a tablet(ICOO Tablet PC) operating system the previous market leaders iOS. 2012 still accounted for 51 percent of tablet sales on the iPad, by the end of this year there will be only 46 percent of the devices sold in the market segment. In this way, produced by Samsung, Amazon and Sony pass Android devices with expected 48.8 percent market share to Apple.
In the long term, according to the research firm, the relative share of Android a little smaller, to 46 percent by 2017 (iOS: 43.5 percent). This development should be primarily due to the expected increase in Microsoft products. While Windows and Windows RT to drive less than 5 percent of all tablets(Onda Tablet PC) sold in 2013, for 2017, a market share of around 10 percent is estimated. In 2012, Microsoft was the proportion less than 1 percent.
Thus stands for the field of computer wipe a similar development as in smartphones. Although Apple has had with its iPhone here in the first place created a new market segment and some time dominated. But now the company from Cupertino has been in the mobile phone market long been eclipsed by the Android-based competitors.
Microsoft's hopes for rapid growth mean the ICD forecasts significantly undermined. But quite unexpectedly, is not the prospect of even numbers. Reason for the current weakness in the market, the decision of the company was to offer two different tablet operating systems. "In our opinion, Microsoft and its partners would be better advised to focus their attention on the improvement of Windows 8," said IDC research director Tom Mainelli.
"All Things D" recommends to consider the IDC figures with some caution. Because the forecasts relate to the number of units shipped, not the sales. While pretty much every Apple iPad also sells, surrendering it, the same could not be of Android dealers said. Finally after delivery devices can be remain on shelves instead of being actually bought and used.
